Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 5th of April 2007- Liverpool lived up to their reputation and convincingly beat arch rivals Manchester United 5-2 in the final of the Dubai Masters Football Cup held at the Aviation Club recently.
Now Liverpool captain Alan Kennedy says they are targeting a "three peat" next year as the Sports Solutions-organised tournament goes from strength to strength.
The English sides quickly dealt to their Scottish rivals Celtic and Glasgow Rangers to bring an early end of the "Battle of Britain", but it was a classic Liverpool-United derby that many of the fans wanted to see.
Although stars such as Steve McManaman, Ian Rush were missing from the cup due to injury and John Barnes pulled a hamstring in the first match that kept him out for the rest of the tournament, Liverpool was able to call on the strengths of Nigel Spackman and Player of the Tournament, Michael Thomas, to thrash United.
Paul Walsh took the Top Scorer award.
Sports Solutions Managing Director Ali Haidary said the event was a huge success all round, with great crowd support, and his company is looking forward to bringing it back to Dubai again next year.
Master Soccer was brought to you by Dubai Sports City, The Courtyard Marriott, DHL, the Bud Cup, DTCM and The Aviation Club.
